repairing railcars with precision and speedThe car repair facility, located at 5403 Coffee Drive, has two repair tracks, each able to hold 15 railcars at a time. We know what we're doing; our 17 carmen repair an average of 16 to 20 railcar per day, totalling about 3,100 cars per year. The shop also has a welding and repair truck, which can travel on-site to a particular location where small defects can be addressed on a railcar without cutting it out from a train. Our shop employees also serve as car inspectors and inspect incoming trains 24 hours per day 7 days per week.
Locomotive repair facilityOur Locomotive Repair Facility, located at 4822 Tchoupitoulas Street, provides both scheduled maintenance and running repairs for both Electo-Motive and Boise Locomotives. The facility consists of five service pits and four holding tracks. Equipment includes an overhead sand system and a Whiting hoist which has a capacity of 200 tons. We also have a turntable, one of the few railroads in the south which still operate one. NOPB maintains a fleet of eleven locomotives as well as performs routine maintenance on BNSF Railway power that makes its way into New Orleans several times daily. The facility is currently undergoing renovations, which will improve the look of the facility and create further operating efficiencies.
