our transportation department is always openThis department is the operational unit of the NOPB and is responsible for moving trains efficiently and safely over our line. We operate twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven days a week. Our primary responsibility is to ensure railcars move without delay and reach destination or interchange in a timely manner accordingly to our Transportation Plan. Our Transportation Department is comprised of individuals who are committed to the service we offer to our customers. 1 superintendent, 2 trainmasters, 5 yardmasters, 5 EDI/customer service clerks, twenty-five 25 locomotive engineers and 47 switchmen and conductors make up NOPB's largest department, just over one-half of the total number of company employees. our safety record speaks for itselfOur Transportation Department boasts a safety record of 2 consecutive years without a reportable personal injury, 2005 and 2006. In 2004 we had 1 minor personal injury. we can get your shipment anywhereOur Transportation Department affects interchange with all 6 Class 1 railroads 7 days a week: BNSF Railway, Canadian National Railway, CSXT Transportation, Inc., Kansas City Southern Railway, Norfolk Southern Railway, and Union Pacific Railroad. This enables us to receive or send freight in any direction throughout the United States and Canada. In our daily interchange activities we also handle intermediate traffic between the Class 1s:
We originate 19 trains per week for BNSF Railway out of our main switching yard Cotton Warehouse Yard. The cars for these trains are primarily received in interchange from the Canadian National Railway, CSXT Transportation, Inc., and Norfolk Southern Railway. We also handle 3 run-through trains a day, 2 from the Kansas City Southern Railway to CSXT Transportation, Inc. and vice-versa and another from BNSF Railway directly to the CSXT Transportation, Inc. Our Transportation Department serves local customers in and around the New Orleans area on a daily basis. We have established an operating curfew, which is strictly adhered to, from 2000 - 0600 daily. This curfew doses not allow any other traffic to traverse the NOPB during the aforementioned hours; these hours are dedicated solely to our port and local industry customers. We receive our customers' railcars from all 6 Class 1 carriers, and as long as these cars are on our line by 1500, they will receive their cars that same day. let us perform for youThe NOPB Transportation Department is very consistent in what we do and is constantly measuring service performance. We handle an average of 15,000 - 15,500 cars per month. Our average dwell time (the idle time a car spends on our property) on a car received in interchange destined for another railroad is 13 hours. A car that is destined to one of our local customers, as long as we receive it before 1500, will be spotted that same day. Our on time performance - measured monthly - is consistently in the high 90s from 95% - 100%.
