EXPORTS: Kraft Linerboard, Newsprint, Printing PaperThe Port of New Orleans is a major export point for linerboard (KLB). Many of the paper mills producing and exporting this product are located in the Southeast US and as far away as Canada. NOPB has no weight or height restrictions so the latest in boxcar equipment can be loaded by paper mills for movement to the port. Once the boxcars arrive, they are unloaded and the linerboard rolls transferred into containers for the trip to Europe or Latin America. The ability to load several containers-worth of product in one boxcar and the benefit of loading containers to above legal road weight within port facilities are the reason why rail plays such a large part in the transport of this commodity. IMPORTS: PulpNew Orleans is an ideal port for wood pulp imports from South America, Asia, and other production points. Because so much pulp enters North America and then moves via rail inland, New Orleans rail connections - more than any other deep-water port in North America – are a natural fit for efficient, low-cost, and delay-free transport of pulp from port to paper mill. New Orleans rail connections hit every North American paper facility where pulp is required as raw material. NOPB's ability to supply boxcar equipment to support the large volumes of pulp are second to none; we sit right in the middle of a rail hub, where more than 4,000 railcars pass each day, including high capacity boxcars that are perfect for pulp loading. NOPB and New Orleans offer absolutely all of the advantages needed to successfully transport pulp to final destination. |
